T he first barber shop in the Scottish Chambers Building was established in the lobby of the Canadian Pacific Railway Ticket Office in 1888. Joseph St. Louis opened his one chair shop directly across the road from his father's shop at 31 Sparks Street.

Pierre Charbonneau took over approximately ten years later and moved the barber shop into its current location on Sparks Street in 1905. The name Imperial Barber Shop was established by Maurice Scully in 1918.

The barber shop was sold to proprietress Mrs. Euralie LaFleur in 1926 although the shop continued to be managed by Mr. Scully. This relationship lasted for almost 30 years: impressive because barber shops were known as a bastion for men only.

The barber shop expanded into a 10 chair operation in the 1930's and then evolved into the three chair shop after 1954.

The Sparks Street shop was closed in 1989 to allow for the complete restoration on the Chambers Complex by the NCC and Standard Life. The renovation of the new Imperial Barber Shop was completed in june of 1995 and the second location was established in 2006 at the corner of Kent & Slater.
