A Bit Of Our History

The original barber shop in the Scottish Chambers Building, just steps away from the Parliament, was established in 1888. The name Imperial Barber Shop was established there in 1918.

Over the years the business changed hands many times. Barber shops were renown for ownership by men however from 1926 to 1956 a woman, Mrs Euralie Lafleur, had ownership but did not work as a barber.

In 1998 Nancee Hunter became owner-operator of the original small Sparks Street location. Her second location on Slater St was established in 2006 and the third location was established in the Glebe in 2009.

Mean while Imperial Barber Shop progressively developed into a family business as Nancee's husband and children took a pivotal role in the expansion of the company.

After 107 years in the same location the Sparks St shop finally closed in 2012. That same year the Imperial Barber training program was introduced and has been instrumental in the expansion as well as in reinforcing the company's high service and skill standards.

In 2013, Imperial Barber Shop opened Beechwood and Tenth Line in Orleans and in 2015 Richmond Rd in Westboro in 2019 Kanata to bring the total number of barber shops in Ottawa to 6.

Beechwood and Westboro are closed permanently due to the multiple lock downs.
